Join me this Saturday January 7 @ La Cocina
Saturdays at La Cocina is the one night when you can hear music from every genre and kick it in the company of some of Tucson’s best party people. Started by Hermilo Guzman (DJ Herm) it has become one of the most talked about nights in the city. The key is the music: Herm makes it clear that whats played must be different than what would be played on pop radio or at bigger nigthclubs. It is difficult to pin down what the format is (Herm refers to it as an open format); it is, however, easier to understand once you know how he picks DJ’s:
1) they have great varying musical taste
2) they’re not afraid to take risks
3) they’ve proven their ability to rock the house over and over again
As a DJ, it is liberating to be able to play virtually anything I want: In fact, the first time I played here I was a bit intimidated (despite having played at almost every venue in this city) more because I kept trying to go back to the tried and true top 20 club hits - a few nights later, I was playing Lindstrom, Morgan Heritage, Bomba Estereo, J Boogie, Earth, Wind and Fire, and on and on. The people in attendance expect surprises, flashbacks, uniqueness, and something different every time - This Saturday I hope to provide just that!!!
